 A. Preparation for Installation
 (1) Clean the mating surfaces of the scuff plate sections and the fuselage skin with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003).
 WARNING : USE SOLVENTS/CLEANING AGENTS, SEALANTS AND OTHER SPECIAL
_______ MATERIALS ONLY WITH A GOOD SUPPLY OF AIR. OBEY THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. DO NOT GET THEM IN YOUR MOUTH. DO NOT SMOKE. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. THESE MATERIALS ARE POISONOUS, FLAMMABLE AND SKIN IRRITANT. GET MEDICAL HELP IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.

 (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
 (3) Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area. 
R R R  (4) Make sure that the scuff plate sections are in the correct condition and are not damaged. If necessary, replace the damaged scuff plate sections. 
R  (5) Make sure that the scuff plate sections fit satisfactorily. 
R  (6) Put the vacuum equipment adjacent the required AFT passenger/crew door.
 NOTE : The use of a strong vacuum pump for the attachment of the____ scuff plates is recommended.

 B. Installation of the Scuff Plates
 (1) Apply adhesive tape to the contour of the scuff plate sections on the fuselage skin.
 (2) Apply adhesive tape approximately 15 mm (0.5905 in.) wide to the inner edges of the scuff plate sections.
 (3) Around the inner areas of the scuff plate screw holes, apply the adhesive tape to a radius of approximately 20 mm (0.7874 in.). 
R R  (4) Apply a layer of release agent, SPECIAL MATERIALS (Material No. 05-013A) to the remaining inner areas of the scuff plate sections. 
R R R  NOTE : The correct application of the release agent makes sure that____ the scuff plate sections are not damaged during the next removal procedure.
 (5) Apply a thin layer of SEALANTS (Material No. 09-005) to the mating area of the scuff plate sections at the fuselage skin (Ref. TASK 51-76-11-300-001).
 (6) Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-005) to the screws (1) (Ref. TASK 51-76-11-300-001).
 (7) If necessary, apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-005) to the inside of the scuff plate sections.

 Remove the adhesive tape from the scuff plate sections.

 (9)
 Put the scuff plate sections (3), (4) and (5) in position.

 (10)
 Align the scuff plate sections and install and tighten the screws (1) and the washers (2).

 (11)
 Remove any unwanted sealant from around the scuff plates.

 (12)
 Install the support and vacuum equipment.
 (Ref. Fig. 402/TASK 53-45-15-991-002)

 (13)
 Attach the SEALANTS (Material No. 09-030) (6) around and approximately 30 mm (1.1811 in.) from the edges of the scuff plates.

 (14)
 Install a sheet of porous felt (7) over the scuff plates.

 (15)
 Attach the porous felt (7) with BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS (Material No. 08-065) to the scuff plates.

 (16)
 Attach the vacuum valve (9) to the SPECIAL MATERIALS (Material No. 05-068) (8).
