(5) Make sure the flap power drive unit [17] is in the rigged position:

(a) Make sure the black rig mark on the cable drum [12] extends past the white cable guard
[12] a minimum of 0.03 inches (0.76 millimeter) on each side.
WARNING: DO NOT RETRACT THE POWER DRIVE UNIT PAST THE RIG MARK IN THE UP
DIRECTION. YOU CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(b) If the power drive unit [17] is not in the rigged position, use the manual drive to move the
power drive unit [17].

(6) Install the rig pin [27] in the flap control unit [4]:
NOTE: This will make sure the flap control unit [4] is in the adjusted position.
(a) Remove the screws [25] and washers [32] and the lower pan [26] from the flap control unit
[4].
(b) Install the rig pin [27] through the cam follower arm and the valve cam.

(7) Adjust the tension in the follow-up cables WFFA and WFFB:
(a) Remove the clips [8] from the turnbuckles [10] on the cables [9] and cables [11].
(b) If you installed a new cable [9] or cable [11], use the turnbuckles to adjust the tension in the
cables to 125 +10/-0 pounds (56.7 +4.5/-0 kilograms).
(c) Use the turnbuckles [10] to adjust the tension in the cables WFFA and WFFB to the limit
shown in (Table 501).
NOTE: During the adjustment, make sure the tension in the cables is never less than the
minimum. If the temperature is 308 F (08 C) or higher the minimum tension is 50
pounds (23 kilograms). If the temperature is less than 308 F (08 C) the minimum
tension is 30 pounds (14 kilograms).
NOTE: To make sure the tension is correct, the temperature of the airframe must be
constant in the limit of ±5 degrees for a minimum of one hour.
(d) Make sure you can easily remove and install the rig pin [27].
(e) Install the clips [8] on the turnbuckles [10].

(8) Make a preliminary adjustment of the flap control valve [19]:
NOTE: This adjustment will make sure the ballscrew nuts do not hit the upstops on the
ballscrews when you retract the flaps. The final adjustment will be done after the flap
drive system is adjusted.
(a) Measure the distance the valve slide [29] extends past the index surface [28] on the flap
control valve [19].
(b) If the valve slide [29] does not extend past the index surface [28] in the limit of 0.00 to 0.030
inch (0.00 to 0.76 millimeters), then adjust the trailing edge flap control valve [19]:
1) Loosen the nut [30] and nut [32] on the adjustable sleeve [31].
2) Turn the adjustable sleeve [31] to change the position of the rod end [24] until the valve
slide [29] and the index surface [28] align in the limit.
