A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1)
Make sure that the horizontal stabilizer pitch trim control is set to zero.
(2)
Make sure that the elevators touch their travel limit stops.
(3)
Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. TASK 29-10-00-864-001), (Ref. TASK 29-10-00-864-002), (Ref. TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
(4)
Make sure that the PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING is in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
(5)
Make sure that the warning notices are in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(6)
Make sure that the warning notices are in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(7)
Make sure that the access platforms are in position at zones 314, 334 and 344.
(8)
Make sure that access door 314AR is open.
(9)
Make sure that trailing edge panels 334AT, 344AT, 334AB and 344AB have been removed (Ref. TASK 55-13-11-000-001).
(10)
Make sure that the inboard end caps of the elevator have been removed (Ref. TASK 55-24-11-000-001).
(11)
Make sure that the tailcone has been removed (Ref. TASK 53-58-11-000-006).

Make sure that the components are clean and in the correct condition.

Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.

Subtask 55-16-38-420-051
A. Install the Support Bearings and Fittings
(1) Install the horizontal stabilizer support bearings.
(a)
Install the bearing housing (5) with the shouldered end at the outboard side of the support fitting.
(b)
Put a new tabwasher (4) in position.
(c)
Install the ring nut (3) and TORQUE to to 5.65 m.daN (41.66 R lbf.ft). Use WRENCH-THS GROOVE NUT (98D55109009000).
(d)
Apply COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-004) to the bearing (6) and install.
(e)
Put a new tabwasher (7) in position.
(f)
Install the ring nut (8) and TORQUE to to 3.95 m.daN (29.12 R lbf.ft). Use WRENCH-THS GROOVE NUT (98D55109009000).
(g)
Safety the ring nuts (3) and (8) with the tabwashers (4) and (7).
(h)
Install the sealing rings (2).
(2) Install the fittings (1) at the pivot points of the horizontal stabilizer (Ref. TASK 53-56-11-400-001).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
(1)
Install the fairings at frame 76/77 (Ref. TASK 55-15-11-400-001).
(2)
Install the inboard end caps of the elevator (Ref. TASK 55-24-11-400-001).
(3)
Install the trailing edge panels 334AT, 344AT, 334AB, 344AB (Ref. TASK 55-13-11-400-001).

B. Visual Inspection
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.

D. Remove Ground Equipment
(1)
Remove the warning notice(s).
(2)
Remove the access platform(s).
