Procedure

 S 224-030
 (1)  
Do this task: "Stabilizer Trim Drive Mechanism Inspection"
 (AMM 27-41-06/601).

 S 424-031

 (2)  
Install the mechanism (Figs. 401 and 402):

 (a)  
Move the upper gimbal to the neutral position on the jackscrew.

 (b)  
Install the hoist attachment fitting and ball nut lock on the jackscrew.

 (c)  
Attach the hoist and lift the mechanism through the access door 312A.

 (d)  
Move the hoist to put the lower gimbal on its attachment lugs.

 (3)  
Install the lower gimbal retaining pins:

 (a)  
Apply a thin layer of grease (BMS 3-33 or MIL-G-23827) to the bearing surfaces of the lower gimbal retaining pins (16).

 (b)  
Align the lower gimbal with the attachment lugs.

 (c)  
Insert the retaining pins (16).

 (d)  
Install the support brackets of the hydraulic tubing if it is applicable. 1) Do not tighten the bolts (24), the washers (23 and 18), and

 the nuts (19).

 (e)  
Apply a thin layer of grease (BMS 3-33 or MIL-G-23827) to the bearing surface of the safety shaft (20).

 (f)  
Install the safety shaft through the lower gimbal retaining pins and the safety sleeve. 1) Adjust the safety sleeve and align it with the holes in the

 lower gimbal.
 2) Install the safety shaft.

 (g)  
Install the bolts (14), the washers (15 and 21), and the nuts (19).

 (h)  
Tighten the nuts on the lower gimbal retaining pin and the safety shaft bolts.

 (i)  
Make sure the grease fitting on the primary ball nut points forward.

 (4)  Install the upper gimbal pins: (a) Use the pin wrench to adjust the stabilizer jacks. (b) Align the upper gimbal with the stabilizer actuator fitting. (c) Apply a thin layer of grease (BMS 3-33 or MIL-G-23827) to the bearing surfaces of the upper gimbal pins (7 and 8). (d) Install each upper gimbal pin so that the hole in the flange engages with the bushing (4) on the locating screw. (e) Install the washer (5) and the nut (6). 1) Tighten the nut (6). (f) Set the split retaining rings (3) on each upper gimbal pin. (g) Install the bolts (10), the washers (1), and the nuts (2). 1) Tighten the nuts (2). (h) Use the attachment pin (12), the washer (13) to attach the antirotation cables to the attachment lugs (Fig. 402). 1) Tighten the attachment pins (12). 2) Install the cotter pins. (i) Connect the hydraulic lines. (j) Connect the plastic drain tubes.
 NOTE:____ To permit an easy installation, increase the temperature of 2 inches (50.8 millimeters) of the tube ends to make them soft. Use hot air at 120-170°F (49-77°C), or hot water at 120-140°F (49-60°C).
 (k)  Attach a clamp to the hydraulic lines and the drain tubes.

 (5)  If the hoist equipment is not necessary, disconnect and remove the hoist equipment.

 (6)  Close the access door 312A (AMM 06-09-05/201).
