R  DO THE REPAIR IN THE WORKSHOP.

 The list that follows gives examples of the tools and materials you can use.
 You can use alternative tools and materials.
 Solder wick: No specific
 Solder pump: No specific
 Soldering iron ( 60W approx): No specific
 Solder (with flux): Mat 05-531

3. Desoldering of a wire (Ref. Fig. 001)
 A. Desoldering with a solder wick
 (1)
 Make the soldering iron hot.

 (2)
 Touch the solder it is necessary to remove with the end of the solder wick.

 ____
NOTE : To remove large quantities of solder, use two thicknesses of solder wick.
 (3)
 Touch the solder wick with the hot tip of the soldering iron.

 (4)
 When all the hot solder is absorbed by the solder wick, remove the solder wick.

 ____NOTE : Cut the solder wick each time it absorbs solder.
 B. Desoldering with a solder pump
 (1)
 Make the soldering iron hot.

 (2)
 Arm the solder pump.

 (3)
 Touch the solder it is necessary to remove with the hot tip of the soldering iron.

 (4)
 Touch the melted solder with the tip of the solder pump and press the button on the solder pump to remove the solder.

 A. Preparation of the Soldering Iron
 (1)
 Make the soldering iron hot.

 (2)
 If necessary, remove oxidation from the tip of the soldering iron with a moist sponge.

 (3)
 Apply a thin layer of solder on the tip of the soldering iron.

 B. Preparation of the wire(s) (Ref. Fig. 002) For coaxial cables, refer to the 20-48-XX
 (1)
 Strip the wire to a lenght of 10 mm (xxxx inch) with the tool applicable for the wire (Ref 20-48-XX).

 (2)
 Make sure that the core of the wire is dry.

 (3)
 Tin the wire:

 -Touch the core with the hot tip of the soldering iron
 -Apply the solder on the core
 -Let the solder flow between the strands of the core
 -Remove the soldering iron and let the core become cool

 (4)
 Cut the tinned core to the required length for the type of
 connection:

 

 -For solder contacts, refer to the relevant stripping lenght table in 20-48-XX.
 C. Connection of the wire
 (1)
 Contacts
 (Ref. Fig. 003)

 (a) Connect the wire to the contact:
 -Touch the contact with the hot tip of the soldering iron
 -Apply the solder in the contact
 -Let the solder melt in the contact
 -Fully engage the wire in the contact
 -Remove the soldering iron and do not let the contact assembly move until it is cool.
 (b) Examine the solder connection
 (Ref. Fig. 004)

 (a) Connect the wire to the contact:
 -Engage the contact on the tinned wire
 -Touch the contact with the hot tip of the soldering iron
 -Apply the solder on the contact
 -Let the solder melt
 -Remove the soldering iron and do not let the contact assembly move until it is cool.
