G. Forward Mechanism Installation
SUBTASK 27-41-41-420-001
(1) Install the forward control mechanism [43]:
(a) Put the forward control mechanism [43] in its position.
(b) Install the bolt [17], bushing [18], washer [19], and nut [20] to attach the aft support link [22]
to the structure.
(c) Install the bolt [13], bushing [14], washer [15], and nut [16] to attach the aft support link [22]
to the structure.
(d) Install the bolts [25], washers [26], bushings [27], washers [28], and nuts [29] to attach the
forward support link [37] to the structure.
(e) Install the bolt [30], washer [31], bushing [32], washer [33], and nut [34] to connect the upper
turnbuckle [35] to the brackets.
1) Install lockwire, G01912.
(f) Install the bolt [2], washer [3], bushing [4], washer [5], washer [6], and nut [7] to connect the
lower turnbuckle [1] to the brackets.

(2) Adjust the lower turnbuckle [1] to get approximately 12.43 in. (315.7 mm) between the
connections.
(a) Make sure there is approximately equal extension of the screws on each side of the sleeve.

(3) Connect the chain [8]:
(a) Put the chain [8] on the idler sprocket [9] and the forward mechanism sprocket [10].
(b) Connect the chain [8] at the connector link [11].
(c) Install the pins [12] on the outboard side of the chain [8].

(4) Adjust the chain [8] tension:
(a) Apply a 5 lbf (22.2 N) force at approximately 4.5 ±1.0 in. (114 ±26 mm) from where the
chain [8] touches the forward mechanism sprocket [10].
(b) Make sure the movement of the chain [8] is 0.25 ±0.07 in. (6.4 ±1.8 mm).
(c) If it is necessary, do these steps to get the correct chain movement:
1) Adjust the upper adjusting nuts [24] and upper adjusting nut [38].
2) Make sure that all three A dimensions equal ± 0.06 inch (1.5 millimeters) from each
other:
a) Measure the A dimensions of left and right aft support link [22].
NOTE: The A dimension is the distance of the aft support link [22] between the
center of the two connection bolts.
b) Measure the A dimension of the forward support link [36].
NOTE: The A dimension is the distance of the forward support link [37] between
the center of the two connection bolts.
c) Make sure that all three A dimensions are ± 0.06 inch (1.5 millimeters) from each
other.
d) Install lockwire, G01912.

(5) Connect the STA cable:
(a) Attach the eye of the STA cable in the slot in the bottom of the cable drum [39].
(b) Turn the trim control wheel to wind the STA cable 28-1/2 turns on the front of the cable drum
[39].

(6) Connect the STB cable:
(a) Attach the STB cable to the cable drum [39].
1) Use a force gauge, COM-1557 to put a 50 pounds (220 newtons) load on the trim control
wheel to pull on the STA cable and make installation of the cable STB easier.
(b) Wind the STB cable approximately 4-1/2 turns on the front of the cable drum [39].

(7) Install the washers [41] and nuts [42] to attach the cable guard [40] to the forward control
mechanism [43].

(8) Remove the safety tags and close these circuit breakers:

(9) Adjust the cables STA and STB. To adjust them, do this task: Stabilizer Control Cable and
Chain Adjustment, TASK 27-41-00-820-801.

(10) Connect the flexible shaft [21] (Figure 401, Figure 402):
(a) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the stabilizer B dimension at 39.89 ±0.04 in.
(1013.21 ±1.02 mm).
(b) Turn the flexible shaft [21] until the stabilizer trim indicators show 4.00 +/- 0.25 units of
