HORIZONTAL STABILIZER LEADING EDGE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of a horizontal stabilizer leading edge
(2) An installation of a horizontal stabilizer leading edge.
B. The horizontal stabilizer leading edge is referred to as the "leading edge" in this procedure.
C. This procedure is applicable for the left and right leading edges.

2. Horizontal Stabilizer Leading Edge Removal
(Figure 401)
A. Location Zones

331 Left Horizontal Stabilizer - Removable Leading Edge
341 Right Horizontal Stabilizer - Removable Leading Edge
B. Procedure
SUBTASK 27-41-21-020-001
(1) Remove the leading edge [3]:
(a) Using non-metallic tools, remove seal from leading edge [3] and tip cap assembly [4].
(b) Remove the bolts from the tip cap assembly [4] and slightly move out enough so the
leading edge [3] can be remove.
(c) Remove the bolts [1] that attach the lower surface and the inboard of the leading edge [3] to
the front spar.
(d) Hold the leading edge [3] and remove the bolts [1] that attach the top surface of the leading
edge [3] to the front spar.
(e) Hold each end of the leading edge [3].
(f) Remove the leading edge [3] from the airplane.

331 Left Horizontal Stabilizer - Removable Leading Edge
341 Right Horizontal Stabilizer - Removable Leading Edge
C. Procedure
SUBTASK 27-41-21-420-001
(1) Install the leading edge [3]:
(a) Lift and put the leading edge [3] in its position.
(b) Make sure the clearance between the leading edge [3] and the horizontal stabilizer [2] is
0.040 in. (1.02 mm) -- 0.130 in. (3.30 mm).
(c) Install the bolts [1] that attach the top surface of the leading edge [3] to the front spar.
(d) Install the bolts [1] that attach the lower surface and inboard of the leading edge [3] to the
front spar.
(e) Install tip cap assembly [4].
(f) Fill the clearance between the leading edge [3] and the horizontal stabilizer [2] with Dow
Corning 93-006-1 sealant, A00900 or sealant, A00247.

HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CENTER SECTION HINGE FITTING - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of a horizontal stabilizer center section hinge fitting
(2) An installation of a horizontal stabilizer center section hinge fitting.
B. The horizontal stabilizer center section hinge fitting is referred to as the "hinge fitting".
C. You can remove the hinge fitting of the horizontal stabilizer center section hinge (which has the hinge
bearing) without the removal of the outboard stabilizer sections.
D. This procedure is applicable for the left and right hinge fittings.
E. You must do the removal and installation of the hinge fitting on one side at a time.
