Examine the pin assemblies of the tripod brace and its mating surfaces for permitted wear limits (AMM 32-21-05/601).

Assemble the lube inserts.

 (a)  
Examine the O-rings on the lube insert for worn parts and damage and replace if it is necessary.

 (b)  
Apply a large quantity layer of grease on O-rings, lube inserts, and inner surfaces of the bolts.

 (c)  
Move the O-rings to the lube inserts and lubricate the insert if it is necessary.

 (d)  
Move the lube inserts to the bolts to make the pin assembly and align the hole for the lockbolt.

Install the tripod brace assembly.

 (1)  
Install the upper tripod brace.

 (a)  
Lubricate the upper tripod pin, the threads, the bushing surfaces and the washer with grease.

 (b)  
Set the upper tripod brace for the installation on the attach lug of the shock strut.

 (c)  
Insert the pin assembly of the upper tripod (Fig. 402).

 (d)  
Install the tang washer and the special nut. 1) Tighten the special nut 50 - 70 pound feet lube torque. 2) If it is necessary, loosen the nut to the nearest

 castellation to align the lockbolt when you install.

 (e)  
Install the lockbolt through the special nut and the lube insert. 1) Install the nut on the lockbolt and tighten.

 (f)  
Apply a tamper-proof putty to the lockbolt nut until the movement of the nut will cause the seal to break.

 (g)  
Lubricate the fittings with grease.

 (2)  
Install the brace assembly of the lower tripod.

 (a)  
Lubricate the pin, the threads, the washer and the bushing surfaces with grease.
