Disconnect the upper torsion link from the steering collar (AMM 32-21-31/401).
(d)
Turn the torsion link and the steering collar approximately 55 degrees to the left. 1) Remove the attach bolt (9) of the cable guard. 2) Remove the right cable guard (8).
(e)
Turn the steering collar approximately 55 degrees to the right. 1) Remove the attach bolt of the left cable guard. 2) Remove the left cable guard.
(f)
AIRPLANES WITH TWO STEERING CABLES; Remove the lockwire (28) and remove the spring pins (27) from the cable groove of the aft steering collar half (View A).
(g)
AIRPLANES WITH SINGLE STEERING CABLE; Remove the cotter pins (26) from the cable groove of the aft steering collar half (View A).
(h)
Disconnect the cables and put the cables aside.

Remove the steering collar to get access to the steering cylinder (AMM 32-51-61/401).

Do the steps below to remove the upper (4) and the lower (12) support plates:
(a)
Remove the nut (23), washer (22), and attach bolt (5) of the upper support plate to disconnect the upper support plate (4) from the outer cylinder.
(b)
Remove the nut (18), washer (19), and attach bolt (21) of the lower support plate to disconnect the lower support plate (12) from the outer cylinder.
(c)
Remove the upper trunnion locknut (1), and the washer (2) from the upper port of the steering cylinder (11).
(d)
Remove the bearing (3) from the upper support plate (4).
(e)
Remove the nut (17), washer (16), and bolt (24) from support plates.

Remove the washers (6), (10), and support plate spacers (7) between the upper support plate (4) and the lower support plate (12).
(g)
Remove the bolt (25) from the upper support plate (4).
(h)
Remove the upper support plate (4).
(i)
Remove the lower trunnion locknut (15), and the washer (14) from the lower port of the steering cylinder (11).
(j)
Remove the bearing (13) from the lower support plate (12).
(k)
Remove the lower support plate (12).
