NOTE: The slat actuator assembly [2] must be extended farther than the leading edge slat [1].
This allows the slat actuator assembly [2] to be preloaded against the slat [1] when it is
fully extended.
(a) Use the gage assembly, which is part of the kit, SPL-1739, to make sure the actuator end
fitting [73] is extended 0.0050-0.1000 inch (0.13-2.54 millimeters) farther than the lug [72] on
the leading edge slat [1].
NOTE: It is not necessary to take any measurements when using the gage assembly.

(b) If the end fitting [73] is not extended 0.0050-0.1000 inch (0.13-2.54 millimeters) farther than
the lug [72], adjust the downstop [79] on the main tracks [75]:
NOTE: The downstop [79] has three positions. The position with one mark facing the
track has the least preload, the position with three marks has the most preload.
The position with two marks is the nominal position.
1) Get access to the downstop [79] through the access holes in the ribs aft of the aft track
rollers.
2) Loosen the nut [77] on the bolt [76].
3) Turn the downstop [79] to adjust the position of the leading edge slat [1].
4) Tighten the nut [77] to 50-82 pound-inches (5.6-9.3 newton-meters) or the bolt [76] to 72-
80 pound-inches (8.1-9.0 newton-meters).

(6) Use hydraulic power to retract the slat actuator assembly [2] to the extend position (Figure 401):
NOTE: This will permit you to install the bolt [25].
WARNING: MAKE SURE ALL PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE FLIGHT
CONTROL SURFACES, THE THRUST REVERSERS, AND THE LANDING GEAR.
THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC
POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) To pressurize hydraulic system B, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Pressurization,
TASK 29-11-00-860-801.
WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LEADING EDGE
FLAPS AND SLATS. THE FLAPS AND SLATS WILL RETRACT. THIS CAN CAUSE
INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Move the flap control lever to the 1-unit position to retract the slat actuator assembly [2] to
the extend position.
(c) To remove power from hydraulic system B, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Power
Removal, TASK 29-11-00-860-805.

(7) Connect the slat actuator assembly [2] to the leading edge slat [1]:
(a) Move the leading edge slat [1] until it aligns with the slat actuator assembly [2].
(b) Install the bushing [18], bolt [25], washer [24], washer [20] and nut [19] to attach the slat
actuator assembly [2] to the leading edge slat [1].
NOTE: Make sure the head of the bolt [25] is on the outboard side of the slat actuator
assembly [2].
(c) Tighten the nut [19] to 660-980 pound-inches (74.6-110.7 newton-meters) or the bolt [25] to
882-1078 pound-inches (99.7-121.8 newton-meters).
(d) Install the bolt retainer [23]:
1) Apply compound, C00528 to the shank and threads of the bolts [21].
2) Install the bolts [21] and washers [22] to attach the bolt retainer [23].

(8) Install the dropout links [7]:
(a) Put the dropout links [7] in their positions.
(b) Install the bushings [10], bolts [8], washers [9], washers [11], and nuts [12].

(c) Tighten the nuts [12] to a minimum of 50 pound-inches (5.6 newton-meters).
(d) Turn the nuts [12] a maximum of one castellation to align the pin holes.
(e) Make sure the final torque of the nuts [12] is not more than 80 pound-inches (9.0 newtonmeters).
(f) Install the pin [13].

(9) Install the slat actuator door [3] on the slat actuator assembly [2]:
(a) Remove the bolts [4], washers [5] and nuts [6] that attach the bracket [32] to the slat
actuator assembly [2].
1) If there are three washers installed on the bolts [4], discard the thicker aluminum
washer.
(b) Put the slat actuator door [3] in its position on the slat actuator assembly [2].
(c) Install the bolts [4], washers [5] and nuts [6] that attach the slat actuator door [3] and
bracket [32] to the slat actuator assembly [2].
(d) Install the bolts [14], washers [15], washers [16] and nuts [17] that attach the slat actuator
door [3] and clamp [52] to the slat actuator assembly [2].
