G. Procedure
SUBTASK 27-81-21-480-002
(1) Install the preload shim assembly, which is part of the kit, SPL-1739, at the forward supports for
the auxiliary tracks [29] (Figure 401) (View B-B):
NOTE: This step is necessary to make sure the leading edge slat is not preloaded against the
fixed leading edge.
(a) Remove the nuts [31] and washers [32] from the clevis [33].
(b) Lift the auxiliary track [29] with the clevis [33] through the auxiliary track support.
(c) Install the preload shim assembly, which is part of the kit, SPL-1739, with the shims [34] on
the clevis [33].
(d) Put the clevis [33] back in its position on the auxiliary track support.
(e) Install the washers [32] and nuts [31] on the clevis [33].

(2) Prepare the auxiliary tracks and the detent arm for the installation:
NOTE: If you will install the same slat that you removed, it is recommended that you do these
steps but is not necessary.
(a) Adjust the aft support for the auxiliary tracks [29] (Figure 401) (View C-C).
1) Loosen the jam nut [39].
2) Loosen the nut [37] to loosen the locking bolt [36].
3) Turn the adjusting nut [38] until the dimension A is as specified (Table 401)

4) Tighten the nut [37] on the locking bolt [36].

(b) Adjust the preload on the detent arm [35] to zero:
NOTE: It is recommended that you do these steps but it is not necessary.
1) Turn the preload adjustment bolt [30] clockwise to increase preload or
counterclockwise to reduce preload.
2) Adjust the preload on all the detent arms [35] to zero pound.

(3) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the surfaces of the main tracks [21], auxiliary tracks [29] and
the side guards on the auxiliary arms [28].

(4) With the main tracks [21] installed on the leading edge slat assembly [17], install the main tracks
[21] between the roller ribs in the fixed leading edge.

(5) If you removed slats No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, connect the thermal anti-icing duct to the slat
assembly [17]. To install the duct, do this task: Wing Anti-Ice Telescoping Duct Seal
Installation, TASK 30-11-31-400-801.
