F. Leading Edge Slat Removal
SUBTASK 27-81-21-020-001
(1) Disconnect the slat actuator [9] from the leading edge slat assembly [17] (Figure 401):
(a) Remove the bolt retainer [18] from the slat assembly [17]:
1) Remove the bolts [15] and washers [16] that attach the bolt retainer [18] to the slat
assembly [17].
2) Remove the bolt retainer [18] from the slat assembly [17].
WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE LEADING EDGE SLAT IN ITS POSITION. THE
LEADING EDGE SLAT CAN FALL TO THE FULL EXTEND POSITION. THIS CAN
CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Hold the slat assembly [17] while you remove the nut [12], washer [11], bushing [10],
washer [19], and bolt [20].

(2) Carefully let the slat assembly [17] move down to the full extend position.

(3) Use hydraulic power to retract the slat actuator [9]. To retract the slat actuator [9], do this task:
Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Retraction, TASK 27-81-00-860-804.
NOTE: The slat actuator [9] can hang from the upper fitting.

(4) Do this task: Deactivate the Leading Edge Flaps and Slats, TASK 27-81-00-040-801.

(5) If you use the sling, SPL-2041 to help with the removal of the leading edge slat assembly [17], do
these steps to install the sling, SPL-2041 on the leading edge slat assembly [17] (Figure 402):
(a) Attach the wedges [69] on the trailing edge of the leading edge slat assembly [17] where
they will line up with the main tracks.
(b) Attach the strap assembly [61] to the bottom of the leading edge slat assembly [17] with
screws [64], washers [65] and nuts [66].
(c) Attach the end fittings [63] to the leading edge slat assembly [17] with screws [67] and
washers [68].
(d) Attach the strap assembly [61] to the end fittings [63], wedges [69] and spreader bar [62].

(6) Connect the overhead hoist to the sling, SPL-2041.

(7) Remove the leading edge slat assembly [17] (Figure 401):
(a) Disconnect the auxiliary arms [28] from the auxiliary tracks [29]:
1) Remove the pin [40], nuts [41], washer [42], targets [43], spacers [48], detent arm roller
bearings [45], washers [47] and bolts [46].
2) Move the auxiliary arms [28] away from the auxiliary tracks [29].
3) Remove the auxiliary arm roller bearings [44] from the auxiliary tracks [29].
(b) Remove the main tracks [21] from the fixed leading edge:
1) Manually move the slat until downstops [22] on the main tracks [21] align with the
access holes in the track ribs.

2) Remove the nuts [27], washers [23], downstops [22], stop locators [26], sleeve [25], and
bolts [24].
(c) Carefully move the leading edge slat assembly [17] forward until the main tracks [21] are
clear of the roller ribs.
(d) Remove the leading edge slat assembly [17].

(8) If you remove slats No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, disconnect the thermal anti-icing duct from the slat
assembly [17]. To remove the duct, do this task: Wing Anti-Ice Telescoping Duct Seal
Removal, TASK 30-11-31-000-801.
