F. Install the Speed Brake Lever
SUBTASK 27-62-22-420-002
(1) Do these steps to install the speed brake lever [22] in the control stand (Figure 404):
(a) Apply grease, D00013 to the inside of the speed brake lever [22].
(b) Apply a thin layer of grease, D00013 to each side of the washers [49] you install.
NOTE: The application of grease, D00013 will help to hold the washers to the speed brake
lever.
(c) Hold the speed brake lever [22] and washers in the correct position.
(d) Move the long shaft [46] through the speed brake lever [22] and washers [49].
(e) Put the long shaft [46] against the right side end of the dowel set, SPL-2409.
(f) Move the speed brake lever [22] forward and aft.
NOTE: The lever and washers must move freely when you move them from the dowel to
the long control shaft.
(g) Move the long shaft [46] and the dowel to the right until all the lever assemblies and
washers are on the long shaft [46].
(h) Remove the dowel.

(2) Do these steps to lock the speed brake lever:
(a) Set the keyway on the long shaft [46] at the top.
(b) Install a new lockwasher [47], but do not bend the tab at this time.
NOTE: Align the key tab on the lockwasher with the keyway on the long shaft.
(c) Put one control shaft wrench from the tool set, SPL-2411 on the left side of the long shaft [46]
to hold it in position.
(d) Install the nut [48].
1) Use one control shaft nut wrench from the tool set, SPL-2411 to tighten the nut [48].
2) Tighten the nut [48] to 100 in-lb (11.3 Nm) - 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm).

(3) Measure the gap after the lever is installed (Figure 405):
(a) If the gap is not in the limits, follow the instructions in Table A to get the correct limits:
1) Use the applicable steps in the removal and installation taks to adjust the washer [49]
on the long shaft [46].

(4) After the speed brake lever [22] is set correctly, lock the assembly in its position (Figure 404):
(a) Make sure the nut is tightened to 100 in-lb (11.3 Nm) - 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm).
(b) Bend the rim of the lockwasher [47] into one of the notches on the nut [48].
1) Use a chisel or the lockwasher break tool from the tool set, SPL-2411 to bend the rim of
the lockwasher [47].
2) Make sure the bend in the lockwasher is not more than 0.15 in. (3.8 mm) into the notch
on the nut.

(5) Connect the speed brake lever to the link assembly.

(a) Install the bolt [24], washer [25], and nut [26] in the speed brake lever [22] and link
assembly [23] (Figure 401).
G. Install the control stand components

(1) Do these steps to install the chain guard (Figure 403):
(a) Put the chain gaurd [45] in its position.
(b) Install the upper screw [39] and the washer [38].
(c) Install the forward screw [41] and washer [40].
(d) Install the screw [44] through the thrust lever opening.
(e) Use the 90 degree screwdriver from the tool set, SPL-2411 to hold the screw [44].
(f) Install the nut [42] and the washer [43].

(2) Do these steps to install the control shaft components (Figure 402):
(a) Install the clamp-up bushing [30] and the long bushing [29] on the stabilizer trim shaft [27].
NOTE: Put the clamp-up bushing on the end with the longest splines.
(b) Put the bearing [34] into the inside end of the short shaft [37].
(c) Move the stabilizer trim shaft [27] into the control stand from the left side.
NOTE: Put the end of the shaft with the longest splines in first.
