B. To identify the airplanes with the ETC, open the APU cowl door and remove the lower shroud (AMM 49-12-31/401). Find the APU model number on the side of the combustion chamber. The APUs that use the ETC have a model number of GTCP85-129(H), (J), or (K). All the other model numbers do not use the ETC.
C. The ETC is found on the ceiling in the right side of the aft cargo compartment (Fig. 4).
3. APU Power Plant (Fig. 1)

A. The APU power plant is the APU engine assembly that is installed in the tail section of the airplane. The APU engine assembly contains the APU engine, APU electrical generator, and engine mounting brackets.
B. The APU power plant is closed in a shroud that is fire-resistant. Also, the shroud decreased the noise from the APU power plant. The APU power plant attaches to the airplane structure with the APU engine mounts.
C. When it is necessary to do maintenance on the APU power plant, the APU power plant stays in its position. To do maintenance on the APU power plant, the APU cowl door must be opened and the lower shroud must be removed. This will let you get to the components of the APU power plant. To make the removal of the APU electrical generator easier, the APU power plant is lowered to a maintenance stand.
4. APU Shroud (Fig. 1)

A. The APU power plant is sealed in a fire-resistant shroud. The APU shroud decreased the noise from the APU. The APU shroud has two parts; the lower shroud and the upper shroud. The upper shroud is attached to the airplane structure. The upper shroud has the APU engine mounts, fuel lines, fuel heater, electrical connections, air inlet ducts, and bleed air ducts. The lower shroud attaches to the upper shroud. The lower shroud has the shroud drains, the oil service door, and the port for the cooling air exhaust.
5. APU Mounts

A. The APU mounts support the APU power plant and isolate the airplane from the vibrations of the APU engine. The APU mounts include the ring mounts, shroud rings, and APU engine mounts. The shroud rings give support for the APU engine mounts and the upper shroud. The shroud rings are attached to the airplane structure with the ring mounts and the brackets. For a more detailed description of the APU mounts, refer to AMM 49-13-00/001.
