MARKING TOOL - CO2 OR UV LASER - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
 _______1. General
 These tools are used to mark the cable functional identification (4
 characters for ATA 100 circuit and 4 characters for the wire number).
 For more data, refer to 20-32-20 Wire Identification.
 Cables that can be marked by laser are identified on the sheath by an
 additional character in the wire identification, by the manufacturer.

 Two types of laser marking exist : CO2 and UV.

Only cables with C code can be marked using TEA (Transmitted Excited Atmospheric) pulsed CO2 laser. CO2 laser marking is applied to cables with two layers of varnish (outer layer of clear varnish over a layer of dark varnish). This type of marking is used to identify the following cables: E0261 CF-C or EN2266-004A E0262 DK-C or EN2267-004A E0270 SJ-C or EN2713-005A E0271 ST-C or EN2714-005A E0272 TK-C or EN2713-005B E0273 TT-C or EN2714-005C E0274 UD-C or EN2713-005C E0275 UE-C or EN2714-005C

Only cables with U code can be marked using EXCIMER (UV) laser. UV laser marking is applied to cables with an optimised top coat directly markable PTFE tape or extruded insulated ETFE. This type of marking is used to identify the following cables: E0261 CF-U or EN2266-005A E0262 DK-U or EN2267-005A E0270 SJ-U or EN2713-007A E0271 ST-U or EN2714-007A

 Main features of the laser

 -TEA (Transmitted Excited Atmospheric) type CO2 pulse laser,
 -wave length = 10.6 microns,
 -frequency: 100Hz,
 -power: 60 W,
 -permissible variation of field depth: 1 mm (0.0393 in.).

 Energy

 (a) Marking energy is produced by the system high voltage. This high voltage ranges between:
 -26 KV ---- minimum marking energy produced by the laser: 10J/cm
 -29 KV ---- maximum marking energy produced by the laser: 13J/cm
 (b) The effective energy density range for all CO2-qualified cables is :
 -Minimum energy density at which marking is legible 8J/cm
 -Maximum energy density at which insulation is not damaged 15J/cm

 Printing requirements Printing orientation relative to longitudinal cable axis. Lettering orientation is vertical on cable ("HOTEL" mode ). Lettering size depends on the wire gauge.

 B. UV Laser R (Ref. Fig. 003)
 (1) Main features of the laser The laser shall be a pulsed source of UV energy with the following requirements:
 -Provide sufficient energy to guarantee the fluence necessary for marking
 -Maintain a preset output energy during production operation
