Prepare to Install the Trunnion Bearing

Clean bearing housing in the structure.

Clean and lightly lubricate all surfaces of the bearing.

Install the bearing in housing.

Examine the dimension between the inner side faces of the spherical bearing.

Find the dimension of shims necessary to get 30.005 to 29.995 inch dimension.

 NOTE: If it is difficult to get the dimension, do the step above
____ with the temperature condition of about 70 degrees farenheit.

Do these steps to adjust the shims:

 (a)  
Remove the trunnion bearing.

 (b)  
If it is necessary, remove 0.003-inch laminations from the shims to get the necessary thickness for each bearing.

 (c)  
Apply a layer of a primer to each of the surface without lamination.

 (d)  
Install bearings and shims in the structure.

 NOTE: The maximum shim thickness to be installed with each
____
 bearing is 0.066 inch.

 (e)  
Install bolts, washers and nuts (6 places) to hold the bearing.

 (f)  
Tighten the nuts to 65 - 100 pound-inches.

 (7)  
Do a check on the distance between bearings.

 (8)  
If it is necessary, do the steps to adjust the shims.

 NOSE LANDING GEAR DRAG BRACE BEARING - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains two tasks:
 (1)
The removal of the drag brace bearing on the nose landing gear.

 (2)
The installation of the drag brace bearing on the nose landing gear.

 B.  
The drag brace bearing is removed if it has damage or worn areas. The removal of the drag brace on the nose landing gear is necessary to get access to the drag brace bearing.
