RMI struggle ends after 13 months

International framework agreement at Renault
PARIS FRANCE A declaration of “Employees’
Fundamental Rights” was signed
on October 12 by Renault group president
and CEO Louis Schweitzer, IMF
general secretary Marcello Malentacchi
and representatives of the Renault
World Employee Committee. After
Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler,
it is the third framework agreement
to be reached with a worldwide auto
producer, and the tenth international
framework agreement (IFA) signed
by the IMF.
“It gives me great pleasure to sign
this agreement,” the IMF general secretary
Marcello Malentacchi said. “I
also want to thank our three French
affiliates for the work carried out by
them, in great unity, during this long
process.” The IMF first initiated a discussion
with Renault on the subject of
an IFA three years ago.
The Renault IFA acknowledges the
company’s social responsibility, its
support of and compliance with the
ILO core labour standards and the
basic right of all employees
to establish and join
unions. Among other
items, the IFA stipulates
that ILO Conventions
No. 87 (Freedom
of Association) and No.
98 (Right to Collective
Bargaining) will be
respected.
Moreover, the company
supports and encourages
its contractors to
take this declaration
into account in their own
respective corporate policies. Renault
“views this as an advantageous basis
for mutual relationships”.

already adhere to the agreement.
