 D.  The keel beams comprise the beam between the main landing gear wheel wells and the beam which passes beneath the center wing box. The beam between the wheel wells is a reinforced box structure which carries pressurization loads originating on the sealed floor structure across the wheel well area. Both of the beams carry the bending loads acting along the lower fuselage across the cavities for the center wing box and the wheel well. A blowout panel is in the lower surface of the keel beam forward of the main wheel well.

 KEEL BEAM BLOWOUT PANEL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  The blowout panel of the keel beam is on the centerline of the airplane, forward of the main wheel well. The function of the panel is to release the pressure that is too high in the keel beam because of a broken APU duct. The panel is hinged and will blow open when special attach rivets are sheared. The panel has a deflector to keep the panel open in flight. Decals give the replacement rivets.

 (1)  Clean the unwanted material where it is necessary.
 F.  Prepare for the Installation

 WARNING: DO NOT GET METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR MOUTH OR EYES, OR
_______ ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM MEK. PUT ON A PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLE AND GLOVES WHEN YOU USE MEK. KEEP MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAMES, AND HEAT. MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
 (1)  
Remove and clean the sealant that remains from the mating surfaces with a wooden or plastic spatula.

Clean the area with the solvent.

Apply the parting agent to external faces of the fairing mating surface (Ref 51-31-00/201).

 CAUTION:_______ APPLY PRESSURE WITH YOUR HAND TO INSTALL THE PANEL.  DO NOT
 DAMAGE OR PRELOAD THE PANEL DURING THE INSTALLATION.  REMOVE
 ALL THE UNWANTED SEALANT FROM THE INNER AND THE OUTER AREA OF
 THE PANEL.  USE THE MINIMUM SEALANT TO PREVENT A PANEL OUT OF

 THE FAIR CONDITION.
 (4)  Apply the sealant to the inner faces of the panel mating surfaces immediately before the panel installation.
 NOTE: You can apply the sealant as a continuous or broken
____ seal (Ref 51-31-00/201).

Examine the attachment clips for damage. S 214-007-B00

Examine the door for free motion at the hinge line.

 S 424-008-B00 CAUTION: USE THE RECOMMENDED RIVETS TO GET THE CORRECT FUNCTION OF THE

 (7)  
If the panel has opened due to excess pressure, then re-install the panel to the "T" structure with two rivets.
