ENGINE COWLING -THRUST REVERSER LATCHES

The thrust reverser latches hold the thrust reverser halves together. There are five groups of latches:

Aft cowl hoop tie (2)

Split line (2)

*
Latch beam (6)

*
V-band (1).

CAUTION:  FAILURE TO OPEN THE LOAD SHARE LATCHES AND THE AFT COWL HOOP TIE LATCHES BEFORE YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER.
Load Share Latches
One load share latch is on the aft end of each thrust reverser half at the 2:00 and the 10:00 positions. The load share latches attach to a strap that connects to the turbine exhaust system. The load share latches do not connect the thrust reverser halves together. They connect the thrust reverser frame to the engine.
Aft Cowl Hoop Tie Latches
One aft cowl hoop tie latch is on each thrust reverser half at the
5:00 and 7:00 positions. The aft cowl hoop tie latches connect the aft part of the thrust reverser halves together. The aft cowl hoop tie latches attach to a strap that connects through a bracket to the strut. The aft cowl hoop tie latches control structural loads. They also prevent internal pressure from pushing the thrust reverser open.
Split Line Latches
Two split line latches are on the aft part of the thrust reverser at the 6:00 position. The split line latches connect the aft parts of the thrust reverser halves together.
Latch Beam Latches
The forward latch beam latch is next to the V-band latch handle on the torque box. There is a safety lock forward of the forward latch. The safety lock is spring-loaded up. When you close the forward latch, the lock moves up and prevents the latch from opening. You must move the lock down to open the forward latch.
The five other latch beam latches are above the three latch beam access doors on the bottom of the thrust reverser. The latch beam latches hold the thrust reverser halves together.

ENGINE COWLING -THRUST REVERSER LATCHES

The V-band latch connects the bottom part of the two halves of the V-groove latch band together. The V-groove latch band holds the leading edge of the thrust reverser halves together.
The V-band anchor strap is on the top of the V-groove latch band assembly at the 12:00 position. The V-band anchor strap holds the top part of the two halves of the V-groove latch band together.
Training Information Point
If the forward latch beam latch is not closed, a warning pin comes out of the bottom of the thrust reverser. The pin is part of the safety lock. You cannot close the left fan cowl with this pin out.
