 3. Fault Confirmation

 A. Test
 (1) Do the procedure for the Operational Test of the Main Fuel-Pump System with Fuel Flow by Transfer (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-00-710-007).
 NOTE : This test is necessary because the pressure switch (that is
____ used for monitoring the fuel pressure produced by the fuel-pump) is connected to the fuel-pump canister by a small diameter pipe-line. In the fuel-pump canister outlet to the main-pump-system pipe-lines is a check valve. If the check valve fails in the closed position it will stop, or restrict, the fuel supply from the applicable pump. With the above fault therefore, the fuel pump low pressure (fault) system only lets you know the fuel pressure inside the fuel pump canister. This is why it is necessary to do the fuel transfer, and see the fuel flow, as it lets you know that the fuel pump canister check valve can be made to open.
 (a) If, during the operational test, the fuel quantity indications (FQI) of the supply (donor) tank and the receiving tank:
 1 Can be seen to change (by approximately equal amounts, the
_ supply tank/cell FQI decreases and the receiving tank/cell FQI increases), no more trouble shooting steps are necessary.
 2 Does not change when a fuel-pump is tested, do Para. 4.A. for
_
 the applicable fuel-pump(s).

 (2) If, during the procedure in Para. 4.A. you have been told to do the test given in Para. 3.A. after a pump canister check valve replacement, do the applicable procedure that follows:
 - Operational Check of the Wing Tank Pump-Canister Check-Valves (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-00-710-012)

 - Operational Check of the Center Tank Pump-Canister Check-Valves

 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-00-710-003) or

 - Functional Test of the Center Tank Pump-Canister Check-Valves (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-00-720-004).


 NOTE : The applicable test is necessary to make sure that the fuel
____ pump canister check valve stays closed in the check/reverse flow direction. The fuel pump canister check valve stops the possible migration of fuel between fuel tanks and is one feature that lets you remove a fuel pump with out defuelling the applicable fuel tank.
