Purpose
The drain valve lets potable water in the lavatory drain overboard through the forward or aft drain valves.
Location
There is a valve in each lavatory. It is under the sink, behind the water system component access door.
Physical Description
The valve has an open and a closed position.
The valve has a control lever.
Training Information Point
This valve is normally in the closed position. When the valve is in the open position, water drains from the water lines, the filter and the heater. Some water from the lines above the lavatory (not shown) will also drain.

WATER STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION -LAVATORY WATER FILTER

Purpose
The water filter removes particles from the cold water before it goes to the lavatory faucet and the drinking fountain.
Physical Description
The water filter uses a replaceable charcoal-filled cannister to filter the water.
The filter has these parts:

Location
There is a water filter in each lavatory. It is under the sink, behind the water system component access door.
Training Information Point
You remove the water system component access door to get access to the water filter.

Purpose
The lavatory drinking fountain supplies these functions:

A place to get cold water for drinking

A place to store cups

*
Collects and drains water.

Physical Description
The drinking fountain has these parts:

Cup dispenser

Housing

*
Drain line connection

*
Grille

*
Faucet.

The faucet is a push button type. It has a cold water line connection and water outlet. The faucet has an internal spring (not shown) that keeps it in the off position.
Location
Some lavatories have drinking fountains and others do not. Lavatories that have fountains, have them installed as part of the outside wall.
Training Information Point
The faucet has internal parts that you can replace if it leaks.
You open the lavatory mirror to get access to the faucet for maintenance.

WATER STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION -FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

General
The two water tanks hold potable water. Potable water goes to the galleys and lavatories through a distribution system.
Fill
You fill the water tanks from the aft service panel. Movement of the tank fill handle to open, opens the fill/overflow valve. Water flows from the fill port through the fill/overflow valve into the outboard tank. The inboard tank connects to the outboard tank through a line at the bottom of both tanks. The water fills the inboard tank from the bottom as the water goes into the outboard tank. When the inboard tank is full, water flows overboard through the fill/overflow valve.
Distribution
The water tank pressurization system supplies a head of pressure to move the water from the tanks, through the distribution system, to the shutoff valves in the lavatories and galleys.
Drain
Movement of the drain valves in the lavatories to open lets water flow from the lavatory distribution lines to the forward and aft system drain valves.
Movement of the forward system drain valve to open, drains these components:

The distribution lines in the lavatories that connect to the forward system drain

*
The forward distribution lines to the lavatories and galleys.

Movement of the aft system drain valve to open, drains these components:
