The propeller pitch control system is integrated into the engine. The pitch is controlled automatically
by the ECU. Depending on the power setting the propeller pitch is adjusted so that the required RPM
will be obtained as shown in Figure 2.
If the hydraulic pressure from the governor fails, the blades turn towards fine pitch. An adjustable fine
pitch stop limits the amount of blade movement towards fine pitch. The fine-pitch-stop is adjusted to
give maximum static RPM. If the governor fails during flight it is possible to over-speed the propeller.
Refer to Section 05-50 for data on over-speeds.

Trouble-Shooting
1. General
The table below lists the defects you could have for the propeller. If you have the trouble detailed in
the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then do the repair in the Repair
column.

Maintenance Practices
1. General
These maintenance practices tell you how to remove and install the propeller. And they tell you how to
do a propeller blade tracking test.

A. Remove the Propeller

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU DO ANY
WORK ON THE PROPELLER. IF THE ENGINE IS TURNED, THE
PROPELLER CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe:
S Set the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch to
OFF.
S Set the ENGINE MASTER switch to OFF.
S Set the power lever to IDLE.
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-11.
Note: Mark the propeller, spinner, front support plate and spinner bulkhead, with an
index mark. This will help you install these items in the correct position.
(3) Remove the spinner:
S Mark the spinner and spinner bulkhead with
index marks to aid installation.
S Release the screws holding the spinner to the
spinner bulkhead and move the spinner clear
of the airplane.
Refer to Figure 1.
(4) Remove the nuts and washers which attach the
propeller to the propeller shaft flange.
Hold the propeller!
(5) Pull the propeller forward and clear of the
propeller shaft flange.
